Sebastián Machado Ramírez
Sebastián Machado Ramírez is a doctoral candidate with the Laureate Program in International Law. He holds an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge and an abogado degree (LLB equivalent) from the Universidad de los Andes, Colombia. He has worked in several capacities in the Colombian government in the areas of public international law, law of armed conflict, and the application of international law by domestic courts. His thesis is entitled Hermeneutics and Humanitarianism: Interpretation, Tradition and Existentialism in War, where he explores the idea of international law as a language-game which comes into existence when it becomes part of the tools that international lawyers use to make better sense of the world as any given tradition might want to make sense of it; a discourse which is situational, a discipline that exists only because of its readiness-at-hand to international lawyers.
